@K.L. The answer is NO to being 23 and not knowing what Twitter is. Twitter is not age dependent.

Twitter is on one hand micro blogging and on the other hand public sms. Yet, it has social aspects too. Bottom line, it is a new communication medium. Like with other mediums, when they were new, people are using it in different ways and still experimenting.

One way to go about it is to find people that tweet about what you're interested in and "follow them." Their feed will be delivered to you. Then you can choose to interact or what ever from there.

All kinds of services are available to make tweeting easier. You can get into that stuff later if you like.

I couldn't agree more. Not only do companies lose points for having cheap products but they also miss another opportunity to brand themselves. For example, a review of the restroom at the restaurant I worked used to work at from www.restroomratings.com

"One might expect an earth-friendly, vegan friendly, animal friendly, ultra-p.c. dining establishment to have an equally refreshing and progressive restroom. I envisioned a restroom utopia with gentle waterfalls, organic soaps, touchless fixtures and toilets with low gpfs (gallons per flush to the industry outsiders)... Unfortunately, this restroom was far from utopia, sporting a dingy black plunger and old-school McDonald's-style orange floor tiles."

They put so much thought into designing their products and sales floor that may or may not grab the customers' attention, but neglect the spot that at least a few customers are guaranteed to visit.

@ Arie, I wonder if the artist inclusion is like picking a color. The station is trying to brand themselves part artist.

Electronic billboards that are part rss reader would be interesting in the radio space. I would like to see that sometime.

Great point about the medium. Radio... quick changing audio ... not the best mesh with the printed large and static space. Maybe the angle is to poke at that. Maybe the best billboard for radio would be boring as all get out... and simly say... "Wish it would change, don't you?" 89.3

Clear Channel was my immediate thought as well, but I do see billboards of stations owned by hubbard and a few others. Even MPR has started putting up quite a few of them. It's confusing to say the least. Most often I see either pictures of the Artists they play on the station which seem to advertise the artist more than the station, or they put up a picture of the radio personalities themselves, which makes even less sense. It's not as if anyone will recognize a picture of Cathy Wurzer and think, "Hey, she's on MPR, I will turn on MPR to see if she's on." Their selling point is their voice and their thoughs, not their picture.

With newer digital billboards it seems like it would be more effective to have something like "Now playing" and "Up next" that would give you a reason to turn on your radio. Or maybe a big tagline for what was currently on the air like, "Is America too damn religious?" and then people may actually turn their dials to see what they were talking about. But with the older style billboards that need to be changed slowly, I have no idea. It's a slow changing visual medium - radio is the exact opposite.

I hear that. That make sense. But if that is the case, is there something innovative we can do with that?

Could we split the board in half? Run a series? Make a webcampain? do a search and plot with online rewards? Stick a joke up there? Do a series on interesting facts. Remind people to shut off their exterior water valves for the winter, or replace smoke detector batteries? I mean, can't we do something more?

I know I am missing the spirit of your post (which I completely agree with) by saying this but Clear Channel is the reason why. They own the billboards and the radio stations. http://www.clearchannel.com/

I am guessing they put radio station ads up when they don't have anything else to post.
